Pasta & Pastels with Nick Serratore
Nick Serratore
Work on a landscape painting using Wallis sanded paper. Beginning with pastel "washes," gradually build a painting in layers. As an added bonus, Nick has taken up Italian cooking and will demonstrate his cooking abilities by providing lunch! Pasta e Fagioli and Italian bread will be on the menu.
Materials List:
Wallis sanded paper, Belgian Mist 14x18 (at least two sheets)
Terpenoid to wash pastel on paper for background color
Old brushes (acrylic paint brushes) at least 2 different sizes
Masking tape, vine charcoal, kneaded eraser, paper towels and photos of landscapes for reference
Pastels: Hard (Nupastels), Medium/soft (Rembrandt)

Watercolor Journaling - by Rosemary Connelly
Rosemary Connelly
Discover the joys of keeping a watercolor journal to record your observations of the world around you. Rosemary will show you how to incorporate drawing, painting and writing in a way that will delight and inspire. Classroom exercises, and one-on-one instruction outdoors each day and Some classroom and out of doors instruction each day. Geared for beginners, but all levels are welcome.
Rosemary is a visual artist working in watercolor and acrylics in the studio and on location. She is fascinated by the textures and colors of a world where doors, windows and peeling paint reveal the passage of time and human existence. She studied fine art and graphic designer at Mesa Community College and Arizona State College and spent 20 years as a graphic design. Focusing on art and travel, Rosemary and her husband Bob, a photographer lived in Italy for two years while fulfilling their dream to "live cheap and make art"! She is both a teacher and exhibiting artist and her work is in private collections throughout the US and Europe.
The fee for this workshop is $100.

PLEIN AIR "TUNE-UP" - by Kirk McBride
Plein air painting can be overwhelming: dealing with the elements, changing light and selecting subject matter call all create barriers from creating a successful painting.
Kirk McBride will demonstrate how to organize yourself, your painting gear, and your thought process to make plein air painting a more enjoyable and successful experience. Topics will include choosing and simplifying subject matter, compositions that work, organizing your easel and palette, watching your value relationships and following a consistent step by step process in making a painting.
Kirk will do demos in how he creates a plein air painting and work with students on developing a systematic approach that works best for them. We will meet at Gallery One in Ocean View and then paint outdoors in nearby areas (weather permitting). In case of bad weather, we will work under shelter.
Some plein air painting experience preferred but not necessary. Must have outdoor painting easel and materials and be familiar with how to set them up. Materials List is posted on Kirk's website .
Kirk McBride
"Everything has a moment when light and shadow create something breathtaking to view." Kirk McBride is constantly looking for those moments to inspire his oil paintings. He travels often and paints a variety of subjects from seascapes to mountains, from city scenes to landscapes, from foreign cafes to interiors of his own home and studio. The relationship of light and shadow being the unifying theme.
Kirk won "Best in Show" at the first local art show he entered 40 years ago and has been at it ever since. Kirk graduated from the University of Maryland and has been influenced by a wonderful group of artist friends who have shared so much of their knowledge.
Kirk has been elected an "Artist" member of the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association. Kirk has been juried into a number of plein air painting events where he has won awards. He has painted in Paint Annapolis, Paint Easton and theLaguna Beach Plein Air Invitational. His home and studio are on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

- Brushes: A large soft brush for underpainting washes.
- Bristle brushes, An assortment of small, medium to large flats or filberts.
- A small detail brush
- Paper Towels or wiping rags for cleaning your brushes.
- Odorless Mineral Spirits and metal container that seals.
- Palette knifes, medium trowel shaped.
- Portable easel and palette.
- A selection of small to medium sized (6x8 to 11x14) canvas panels or canvas pads with tape and clips.
- Plastic or paper viewer.
- Comfortable clothes and hat... layers that can be added or removed depending on the temperature and wind.

Hyper Realist Watercolor Painting - by John Bayalis
It is a misconception that watercolor is too elusive or transparent a medium for the bold and detailed surface quality that super realist paintings require. This painting class will introduce the participants to techniques specific to creating hyper real or photo realist paintings in watercolor. The instruction will incorporate the use of photographs as a subject source for paintings. Source material will be available for the students or they may use their own images. Watercolor materials and color theory for all levels will be reviewed and a variety of transfer methods will be presented. The instructor will demonstrate painting techniques and present individual critiques of the work completed.
Noted for his distinct, realist style, the artist's skill at handling contemporary themes and subject matter has earned him acclaim from art critics and collectors throughout the United States. He has been the recipient of numerous awards in both national juried shows and Fine Arts Festivals. Among his honors are an award of an individual artist's fellowship grant and the selection for the Watercolor Page in American Artist magazine. Most recently he received a second place award in the "I Love Watercolor" international painting competition sponsored by Sennelier. John's works are included in private and corporate collections throughout the United States

Oil Painting in an Impressionistic Style - by Margaret Bayalis
Join award-winning artist, Margaret Bayalis and learn the techniques used by the French and American Impressionist painters. Participants will discover the techniques of the Impressionist's tradition of plein air painting from direct observation in the studio. Learn to enhance your paintings using vivid color and more expressive brushwork. We will explore techniques to create expressive paintings from photographic resources. Demonstrations will be given for each class and instruction will be presented to the group as well as on an individual basis. Classes will include critiques of completed works
Margaret's style has a luminous quality which makes her paintings glow with an inner light. Her themes deal with figurative and landscape subject matter. The artist's landscape paintings capture unique lighting effects and also evoke a mood whether with or without figurative elements. Margaret currently works between studios in Milford, DE and St. Petersburg, FL. The artist keeps an active professional schedule participating in juried art festivals and competitions, gallery exhibitions and teaching workshops. Margaret's work has been exhibited throughout the Northeast in Galleries, museums, and juried shows. Her oil paintings are included in numerous private and corporate collections

This course will cover various techniques in watercolor with individualized and personal instruction. Color mixing, composition and different applications of paint will be explored. Watercolor techniques and applications will be demonstrated. Reference material will be supplied each week to be used to produce a complete painting. Some previous knowledge of watercolor painting is helpful but not necessary.
Originally from England, Sonia now resides in Lewes. She loves to travel and has captured many of the places she has visited in her paintings. Sonia has received various awards for her watercolors, which are exhibited in Maryland and Delaware and has won awards in juried shows. Sonia also enjoys teaching and presently teaches at Osher, University of Delaware. She is a member of the Art League of Ocean City, The Rehoboth Art League, Cape Artists, and Gallery One in Bethany Beach.
Materials: 1 large round brush, 1 small round brush, 1 one inch flat brush, pencil, eraser, water color container, paper towels, board to paint on, watercolor paper. At least 6 basic colors are essential including green, burnt sienna, ultramarine blue

Dichroic Glass Jewelry Workshop - by Fay Kempton
Learn about the "Bling" in glass jewelry. You will learn the basics of design and create your own. You may make:
Three pendants with two pair or matching earrings or
One pendant with earrings and a bracelet or a nightlight or
Negotiate for a different combination
Class One: Cut and glue the glass (afraid of cutting, use tiny scrap pieces – they make lovely mosaic creations.)
Class Two: Assemble the fired pieces with gold and silver plate findings.
Fay graduated from Temple University, majoring in Fine Arts. Her career included graphic and interior design presentation work for the Hotel Division of Marriott Corporation. She took a stained glass course to explore the ancient art discipline. The class began a 30 year love affair with glass.

Time: Mondays, 5 – 7 pm.
Fee: $40.00 for two class workshop. All materials and tools are provided with a $30.00 fee payable to Fay Kempton. 8 Students maximum.
